The City of Portsmouth is served by the Portsmouth Humane Society, located at 2704 Frederick Blvd, Portsmouth, Virginia.
The city of Portsmouth Animal Control Officers are charged with enforcing animal protection laws and all animals are brought to the Portsmouth Humane Society.
The shelter can house up to 300 animals and has Humane Education, Pet Therapy and Volunteer opportunities for citizens who would like to help care for the animals.
The Portsmouth Humane Society has dogs, cats and occasionally a reptile available for adoption at reasonable fees.
