It is a fact-thousands of companion animals are lost by loving families in Hampton Roads each year.
Some are found in a matter of hours, some return after several weeks while sadly, others are never seen by those who love them again.
Many of these pets find their way to Hampton Roads animal shelters or rescue groups but without a collar with identification or are implanted with a microchip, the animal care professionals have no way of knowing who is the animals rightful owner.
Pet Owners searching for their lost pets must still make an active search, post flyers, ask friends and neighbors to help them search and visit their local animal shelters on a regular basis to search for their pets-that hasn't changed.
What HRLP.org is designed to do is
to transmit your pets information to local animal shelters to help the shelter workers and Animal Control Officers recognize your pet should it arrive there. As many dogs and cats look alike, the participating agencies receiving these reports, Animal Control Officers or HRLostPets.org
cannot promise that a positive I.D. of your pet will be possible without your help. If your pet is missing, please include local animal shelters in your search.
This cooperative effort among all Hampton Roads animal welfare agencies was established with one goal in mind-returning lost pets to their homes.
Now He's "Lucky Luigi!"
We got him! Luigi was lost and reported to us by a New York resident who was visiting the Hampton Roads area over the Thanksgiving holiday.
On the very day that Luigi was reported lost, HRLostPets.org received a found
pet report from a citizen that described a dog they found in the same area-the description was almost a perfect match,
right down to the blue-studded collar that Luigi was last seen wearing!
The only problem was, the person who made the report left no name, phone number or e-mail
address to help us contact them.
With the help of Cox Communications and Chesapeake Animal Cotrol Officers, the HRLostPets team was able to make contact with the person who found Luigi and help reunite him with his owner.
We would also like to thank the kind people who reported that they found Luigi and cared for him until his owner could return to Hampton Roads to claim him.
It isn't often that HRLostPets.org can take such an active role in returning a lost pet home, but we do make every effort to assist pet owners in every way possible so there
can be more happy reunions like this.
To offer thanks to www.HRLostPets.org seems so insignificant a means to show my gratitude to a website that, without it, I would not have had the miracle of finding my lost dog, Luigi.
What a truly heartfelt Thanksgiving this has been. A Christmas gift that is and will forever remain priceless--unconditional love of a pet family member. Thank You HRlostPets.org!

Why HRLostPets Was Created
Until it's inception, there was no way for Hampton Roads pet owners to effectivly communicate their missing animals information to each of the area animal shelters. With different locations, hours and requirements, pet owners were fortunate to
be able to fill out a lost pet report at their local shelters, let alone report a lost animal to all of them at once.
The purpose of this website is to:
Reunite lost pets with their owners
Assist Animal Control Officers with identification and recovery of lost pets
Assist citizens searching
for a lost pet by providing information and resources in a "one-stop" website designed to help meet their immediate needs
Educate the citizens of Hampton Roads in the hope of preventing their pets from becoming lost
Educate pet owners about the issues that confront the animal welfare community each and every day.
HRLostPets is a free service provided to Hampton Roads by the Portsmouth Humane Society, there is never a charge to file a lost or found pet report through this site, however
a donation to keep this valuable service available to all Hampton Roads residents would be appreciated.
Using Our Site
HRLostPets.org allows pet owners to report a missing pet to their respective Hampton Roads animal welfare agencies online while giving as many useful facts and a photograph to help shelter workers, Animal Control Officers and animal rescue groups
identify your pet and return it to you.
This information is transmitted to the animal welfare agencies in your city of residence and if your pet is turned in or recovered, you have a better chance of being reunited with your wayward pet. This website also allows home based rescue groups and every day
citizens to comply with Virginia law requiring that animal control agencies be notified by caring people who find a stray or abandoned pets.
HRLostPets.org has teamed up with PETS 911 in order to deliver a more comprehensive and longer-lived database system for
lost and rescued pets. Once listed a pet will be kept for three months (90 days) and searchable by varied traits such
as color and breed. You can access these searched with the links below.
Sometimes, animals get lost and wander far from home-or they stray into another city or county while other times, they are picked up by caring people and taken to another shelter closer to thier home.
While HRLostPets.org can't make your pet come home any faster, we think that every possibility should be considered. This is why we started ShelterView. If your pet has been missing for over five days,
you might want to take a look at ShelterView as it lists many of the pets that are available for adoption in local animal shelters throughout Hampton Roads.
The possibility that another shelter in a neighboring
city has your pet available for adoption is remote, but we think that every possibility should be considered and made available to pet owners. Click Here to visit ShelterView.
